Bio-Competence Centre of Healthy Dairy Products was founded in 2004 by Estonia’s leading universities in biotechnology (University of Tartu) and agricultural production (Estonian University of Life Sciences) and Estonia’s top producers of milk and dairy products and animal feed: Dairy Cooperative E-Piim (milk production and dairy products), Animal Breeders Association of Estonia (cattle breeding) and Starter ST (feed additives).

Focus: Applying and integrating our microbiological, biochemical, genetic, metabolomic, genomic, bioinformatic, clinical and physiological know-how to work out and implement biotechnological innovative solutions to create feed and food products and dietary supplements for general, targeted population and personal medicine challenges.
Biotechnology, health promoting food, probiotics, prebiotics, food with increased nutrient density, clinical trials, value chain for the production of health promoting dairy food, animal science (breeding and nutrition), microbiology, metabolomics, genomics, bioinformatics, lipid metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, vascular health, natural antioxidants (incl. designing of antioxidants).
Vision: BioCC is a internationally recognized competence centre for the development of new technologies, products and services in the food and feed production industry while at the same time addressing the whole value chain for health-promoting dairy food.
Mission: BioCC enhances the competitiveness and profitability of the production of healthy value-added food products through innovative solutions and encompassing the whole value chain (feeding, breeding, growing, food processing, human nutrition and medicine).
